The better team lost, the better player won. What a sad end to an amazing season. It doesn't help that Kawhi traveled on his game winning shot. Anyways, the Sixers fell to the Raptors 90-92 and there is nothing to do right now other then mourn this loss and look foward to next season. I want to take a quick moment to thank those who have helped me with this blog throughout the Sixers season. Thanks to all my teachers including Mrs. Kassab and others for inspiring me and giving me the strength to continue blogging even when times got rough. I'd also like to thank my SEI mentor (I'll keep his name anonymous for privacy reasons) for giving me excellent advice and for taking time out of his day several times in order to meet with me. Most importantly though, I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to read or comment on my blog. Without you all this journey wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable. In regards to the future, I have no idea whether I will continue with this blog next season, but one thing is for sure, no matter the result of any game I will always be faithful to my beloved Sixers and I can't wait for the excitement of next season.
Hey Everybody, it's Zach aka the man behind 76er Brain. I just wanted to update you all by telling you that after the conclusion of Sixers-Raptors I will be doing an awards blog if we win the series, and a recap blog if we don't. So stay tuned....
Instead of doing an overall series recap, I've decided that it would be a bit more fun to give out series awards instead. So here we go (:
Series: 4-1 (PHI)
Ben Simmons: (Jared Dudley's Dad Award). For Ben Simmons, this was a great series, however it got off to a very shaky start. Game 1 went so badly in fact that fans started to boo (which is the right thing to do in my opinion). After the Sixers game two victory, some ghetto looking Tim Duncan/Tony Parker hybrid Jared Dudley called out Ben and called him average. Ben didn't take this lightly as the next game HE DOMINATED for 31 points and he was just plain awesome for the rest of the series.
Brooklyn Nets: (At Least You Tried Award)
Mike Scott: (The THREEGIONAL MANAGER Award). Mike Scott had an awesome series for the Sixers off the bench. He played tough defense, shot well from three, and got a buttload of rebounds. Not too mention, he also had the game winning three in game 4 with less then 30 seconds remaining.
Joel Embiid: (Mr. Unpredictable Award). Honestly I can't guess anymore when it comes to Embiid playing. The dude practiced in uggs and then he goes and drops 31 points in game 4, let that sink in...
Tobias Harris: (What Took You So Long Award). After a cold end to the season and a terrible game 1 performance, I was terribly worried about Tobias Harris. However, Tobias put Sixers fans worries to rest this series with his awesome performance especially in game 3 where he shot 6 of 6 from three.
Jimmy Butler: (Heart and Soul of the Team Award). I don't care what anyone says, the Sixers better give my man Jimmy Buckets a max deal. He brings constant energy and effort, and each game he picks whether he wants to have a big game or if he just wants to set up his teammates for big games.
Last night, the Sixers bench players blew out the Chicago Bulls 125-109. This was quite a boring affair and I don't really have anything to say but hey, it's a W.
Betting Line PHI(-9) CHI(+9)
Sixers Player of The Game: Jonathan Simmons AGAIN ( 20 Pts, 5 Ast, 7 Reb)
-BOBI MADE ANOTHER THREE
-Jonathan Simmons deserves playing time in the playoffs. While he isn't the best shooter he can play defense and can shoot the occasional three.
-TJ finally played well
-THE BULLS ARE ACTUALLY AWFUL
-Walter Lemon Jr had 20 points, WHO IS THIS GUY?????
-The Sixers will play the Nets in the first round, the first game is on Saturday
-WE TALKIN BOUT PLAYOFFS BABY!!!!
In a game that meant basically nothing, the Sixers lost to the Heat 99-122. The Sixers were missing Joel Embiid and JJ Redick, and the rest of the Sixers starting line-up was taken out of the game after halftime. The big deal about this game was that it was the final home game of Dwayne Wade's "legendary" career. I put legendary in quotes because DWAYNE WADE IS OVERRATED. Sure, he did win 3 rings, but Lebron carried him to two of them. Anyways, this is a Sixers blog and I'm getting a bit off track. The Sixers final game is Wednesday at home vs the Bulls. THEN AFTER THAT IT'S PLAYOFF MODE BABY!!!
Betting Line: PHI(-6.5) MIA(+6.5)
Sixers Player of The Game: Jonathon Simmons 14 Pts, 8 Ast, 2 Reb
-I'd rather play the Nets then the Magic in the first round of the playoffs
-Jonathon Simmons is an underrated defender
-SHAKE MILTON IS ACTUALLY TERRIBLE
-Boban actually might be pretty useful in the playoffs
-I'm saying this now, I truly believe the Sixers will win the NBA finals.
-PLAYOFF MODE ACTIVATED!
In the most boring game I've ever seen, the Sixers took down the Chicago Bulls 116-96. This game was over before it even began. The bulls, who are already a terrible team, were without their best players Zach Lavine and Chris Dunn. The Sixers, coming off three loses in a row, were in desperate need of a win. After a tight first quarter, the Sixers decided to actually start trying and soon after that, the game was a total blow-out. Overall, while this wasn't the most enjoyable game, championship teams are expected to blow-out bad opponents, and the Sixers did just that.
Betting Line: PHI(-8.5) CHI(+8.5)
Player of The Game: JJ Redick 23 Pts, 1 Ast, 5 Reb
-Mike Scott is actually a legend
-Ben Simmons needs to start forcing his way to the basket, because that is when he's at his best
-Embiid missed a lot of free-throws
-Tobias Harris missed two free-throws in a row in the forth quarter, so the crowd won free hot dogs lol
-THE SIXERS LOCKED UP THE THREE SEED!!!!!!!
Welp, that's three whole losses in a row. It's almost like the Sixers don't want the third seed. Last night, at home in front of a sell-out crowd, the Sixers fell to the Milwaukee bucks 128-122. The Sixers trailed at the end of the first quarter, but led for basically the rest of the game until giving up a whopping 46 points to the Bucks in the fourth quarter. Joel Embiid had one of his best games as a pro, he even had a triple-double to boot. JJ Redick and Mike Scott were also on fire, as both of them had 5+ three pointers. However, the Sixers just couldn't stop George Hill and Giannis at the end of the game. If Jimmy Butler played, this would've been a win for the Sixers, but he was unavailable and the Sixers lost as a result.
Betting Line: MIL(-2.5) PHI(+2.5)
Player of The Game: Joel Embiid 34 Pts, 13 Reb, 13 Ast
-MIKE SCOTT WAS 6/8 FROM THREE
-TJ SHOULD NOT BE ON THIS TEAM
-Embiid had one of his best games I've ever seen
-Tobias is still cold
-The Sixers still can't play defense against gaurds
-The third seed is not locked up yet, so the Sixers better start winning
Honestly, there's no need to recap this one. The under-manned Sixers lost yesterday to the Atlanta Hawks YET AGAIN. This team showed no heart, effort, or will to win. This is a sub .500 team without Joel Embiid, and that becomes more clear every game. Also, Jonah Bolden stinks.
Betting Line: PHI(-3.5) ATL(+3.5)
Sixers player of the game: JJ Redick 30 Pts, 3 Ast, 2 Reb
-The Sixers may actually lose the third seed in the playoffs
-The Sixers couldn't make a free throw last night, even JJ missed THREE WHOLE FREE THROWS
-Tobias played well, so I guess thats a positive
-Trae Young wants to be Steph Curry so badly, but he never will be anywhere close to as good as Steph
-The Sixers are 1-3 against the Hawks this year, HOW IS THAT EVEN A THING
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooof. Last night the Sixers (without Joel or Jimmy) fell to the lowly Mavericks 122-102. There's really not much to say about this one. The Sixers were down their two best players, so it's not a shocker that they lost. However, the fact that they were BLOWN OUT really surprised me. Besides Ben, Tobias, TJ, and JJ the entire Sixers team was ice-cold last night. The team shot terribly from three as they shot less then 20% overall on their attempts. Honestly, this is a game to forget and I hope the Sixers get their act together before the postseason.
Betting Line: PHI(-5) DAL(+5)
Player of the Game: JJ Redick 26 Pts, 5 Reb, 4 Ast
-Tobias Harris continues to shoot poorly from three, which is starting to concern me
-Jimmy Butler makes a bigger defensive impact then people realize, as the Sixers defense was absolutely atrocious without him
-Joel SHOULD NOT be resting
-James Ennis III is one of the worst players in the entirety of the NBA.
-Game highlights will be included below, but if I were you I wouldn't watch them
Sorry everyone, the past few days have been quite chaotic for me and I haven't been on my game when it comes to blogging so I apologize. But enough of that, this post will consist of a recap of the Celtics game and a rather small recap of the Hawks game.
So, about the Hawks game. There really isn't much to say about this game other then the fact that the Sixers have a ton of trouble defending against guards. Trae Young took advantage of this and dropped 32 points along with a bunch of three pointers. This was a game that I really thought the Sixers would win by double digits, so I was very salty to say the least when they lost.
Okay, now lets move on to the GOOD STUFF! On Wednesday of last week, the Sixers finally defeated the dreaded Boston Celtics 118-115. The Sixers were trailing by double digits early on, but after Marcus Smart shoved Joel Embiid and got ejected, the crowd got into it and the Sixers started to make their comeback. So credit to the Sixers for staying positive and coming back to win this game. The Sixers strategy in this game was all about getting to the free throw line, as the team shot a whopping 43 free-throws total. Monster performances from Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler brought home the win for the Sixers. This game was very entertaining to watch and the best part of it all came when Jimmy Butler hit the game winning shot with 4.7 seconds left in the game. Overall, this was an awesome win and might finally be the confidence booster that will allow the Sixers to beat the Celtics on a consistent basis.
Betting Line: BOS(+3.5) PHI(-3.5)
Player of the Game: Joel Embiid 37 Pts, 22 Reb, 4 Ast
-In a post-game interview, Joel Embiid called himself the most dominant player in the league, and he's 100% right about that.
-Ben Simmons got a really nice and-one bucket with less then a minute remaining and most importantly of all, he made the free-throw.
-Tobias has been slightly off lately, but I'm not too worried because even the best shooters go through slumps sometimes.
On Tuesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Charlotte Hornets 118-114 partially thanks to a missed lay-up by Jeremy Lamb. This was by all definitions a trap game as the Sixers were without their best player in Joel Embiid and they were thinking ahead to the Celtics game today. The Sixers starters all played great games and as a unit they scored 104 points and a-lot of those points are due to Redick hitting seven three pointers. However, every player on the Sixers bench scored 0 points, unless their name was James Ennis III. Ennis had his best game as a Sixer, as he dropped 14 points total and hit a three with 18 seconds left to give the Sixers a 4 point lead. While it's awesome to see Ennis play well, the rest of the Sixers bench needs to be able to score more then 0 points if they want to beat the Celtics tonight. Overall, this wasn't the prettiest game but good teams don't lose trap games and the Sixers proved that last night.
Betting Line: PHI(-1.5) CHA(+1.5)
Game Highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHH9LST_ONE
Player of the Game: Ben Simmons 28 Pts, 5 Ast, 8 Reb
-JJ was 7/14 from three!!!
-Whenever Embiid is out, Ben usually drops more then 20 points
-THANK YOU JAMES ENNIS
-TJ has been terrible as of late
-MIKE SCOTT SCORED 0 POINTS HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!?!
-PLEASE BEAT THE CELTICS I'LL DO ANYTHING
52 POINTS AIN'T ENOUGH GREEK FREAK. Last night on a national televised game, the Philadelphia 76ers went into Milwaukee and took down the number one seeded Bucks. This was a back and forth game in terms of runs, but the Sixers lead the entire game. A stellar performance from Joel Embiid and clutch Buckets from Jimmy Butler down the stretch allowed the Sixers to overcome Giannis's 52 point game. This was a statement game by the Sixers where they showed that they can compete with the best of the bunch when Embiid is healthy. Without Embiid this Sixers team is a whole different story. The Sixers can't celebrate this win for two long though because on Wednesday the Boston Celtics come to town in a MUST-WIN game for the Sixers.
Betting Line: PHI(+5.5) MIL(-5.5)
Player of the Game: Joel Embiid 40 Pts, 15 Reb, 6 Ast
-Jimmy Buckets probably shoots around 80% in the fourth quarter every game
-Joel Embiid takes the Sixers from a slightly above average team to a championship contender
-Tobias had a quiet game with 12 points but he didn't shoot much
In quite an unexciting affair, the Sixers took care of one of the league's worst teams in the Cavaliers. Honestly, there's not much to say about this game. It was an ugly win but at the end of the day a win is a win.
Betting Line: PHI(-14) CLE(+14)
Player of the Game: Ben Simmons 26 Pts, 10 Reb, 8 Ast
-Tobias had a quiet game
-Zhaire Smith was available, but the Sixers decided to not play him
-Joel had 4 blocks
-Joel's put-back dunk at the end was other-worldly
